I recieved an e-mail from a 12-year-olds mother today that breathed new air into me....
Jay,
When I asked my oldest son (16) to pick out a book to loan to his younger brother (age 12), he gave him Deep Freeze. We had bought it for our oldest son a few years ago at Schuler’s books. His little brother loved it. I could not get my son, Peter, to put the book down. I had to tell him to stop reading just so he could get his work done. Sadly he is now done with the book and we can’t find any information on other books by you. Do you have any more books for sale? We live in the Grand Rapids area. My son’s email address is.....
Thanks,
Brenda Cripps
....I can't begin to tell you how much this small note means to me. After fighting for soo many years with publishing companies, my will well ran dry. Thank you for the much needed drink. If I have brought one new reader to the wonders of books, the fight is worth my lifetime. I owe you forever.
For those interested in purchasing a book, DEEP FREEZE is available in Grand Rapids, Mi. only, at the Schuler Books on Alpine and the Schuler Books on 28 th street. You can still order via mail.
It all started when...
I started writing at the 'old' age of 39. I have never written into a newspaper, magizine, or anything so public- I even have a hard time with letters. One day sitting out on my deck, bored out of my skull, a reoccurring thought came back to me. The more I thought on it the more it nagged on me. I remember telling my wife about it and she told me I should just sit down and write it all out. To her surprise I actually listened to her! I began that day writing what I had felt, trying as hard as I could to put my feelings into words and it felt great! I continued this exercise for a few more days and then decided to read what I had written. I couldn't believe what I was reading. . .the beginnings of Deja-Vu, my first book. A whirlwind two months later and the book was completed; the stopper had been pulled and the words gushed out.
Now, only 4 years later, it's strange to me to think that there was a day in my past that I never thought of writing, it seems such natural part of me. My relatives all say they aren't surprised my stories are good, they rave still of the 'letters' my father use to write. Pages upon pages of his "Woow is pour me" tales of his fantasies of how his wife mistreated him and the labor and agony he wallowed in at her hands. . .all fiction of course. But man they were hilarious! I hear from one of my Uncles my younger sister caught that bug. . .
*NEW*
It's here!!!. . .Open end stories!
If you ever wanted to write but just couldn't come up with something to start with, now's your chance to add to a story that already has a starting foundation. I have started two different stories with pretty good story bases. Story three I left for those that would like to add an idea for a story or just some input. When a new idea with promise comes up I will add another story entry so we can all be the authors. When a story is completed, I would like to publish it and add the names of those whom have contributed next to their work in the book. It should be a blast!

Reviews
Thank you for sending me a copy of "DEEP FREEZE", I really enjoyed it. The plot was great and I was intrigued right from the start. The story was easy to visualize and Brice and Ryan's camaraderie was fun and very humorous even in the midst of their trials. My 14 year old also read the book, she laughed out loud frequently! I am an avid Dean Koontz fan and Jay's writing and style fit right in to the kind of books I enjoy reading!

"Exhilarating! I was really, really into the story! I didn’t want to put the book down! It’s not just an adult book. I had to re-read it as soon as I finished the last page.
...WE WANTED TO BE THE CHARACTERS!!!"

DEEP FREEZE is actually the third book I wrote, I felt it would be more widely received than all of my other books for my 'freshman' release. If you live in the Kent County area of Michigan, the book can be purchased at Schuler Books & Music and soon,(I am hoping) at Barnes & Noble. If you aren't from the area you may also purchase it via snail mail. Please see my 'Order form' for more information.
Please visit my 'DEEP FREEZE' page for the making of this story, I think you'll find it quite humorous. . .in a warped sort of way.
Coming Soon
blue (formerally known as Deja-Vu )Both my wife and my publisher wanted to skin me alive when I told them I wanted to wait and release this as my sophmore work. Neither of them could wait for it to come out in book form. Well soon they'll get their wish, it's at the editor as we speak and I've got an illustrator on the job for the book cover. Stay tuned!
After a long and painful wait it's finally going to print. Unless something else stops the presses, the book should be ready and in the stores no later than the last week of April. . .fingers are crossed!
If you would like to read more about the background of the making of this book, check out my "Up and Coming" page on the left menu bar.
A tale of the Traveling People
I've always wanted to do a mariner tale. When I was researching a story line I just couldn't believe how close the myth of the Flying Dutchman came about and the time the lands had a bounty on any Gypsy found. I just couldn't resist!
Check out my info page for more background at the 'A Tale of the Traveling People" tab to the left, or skip right to the intro pages of the upcoming novel.
